By: C.Z., L.D. and S.S. - YEAR 6B
On February 6th we went on an excursion to the shelters and we went at the Central Market, where they gave us a test to see how they threw bombs. On May 25th there was a bombing in Alicante a very special day for Spain.
On May 25th, 1938, nine Savoia S-79 planes of the Italian fascist aviation flew over the city of Alicante and dropped 90 bombs on the Central Market, which was very busy with people trying to stock up on food in months marked by shortages.
On this trip we have learned about the Contemporary Age. The city of Alicante initially has air raid shelters in Plaza Balmis, from which we must better understand the Contemporary Age.
It is a small shelter that, like the rest, was built under the coordination of a Municipal Passive Defense Commission, which built up to 94 shelters spread throughout the city, making Alicante one of the most important European cities in this type of construction.
