INFORMATION ABOUT THE MONUMENT:
- The Palace is today an extensive park of almost 300 hectares, on the shores of Lake Kunming and contains a series of buildings. The lake is artificial.
- It was originally built in 1750 by the Qianlong Emperor.
- In 1860, during the Second WorldWar, the original Summer Palace was virtually destroyed by Franco-British forces.
