INFORMATION ABOUT THE MONUMENT:
- The tower was designed by August Pugin in a neo-Gothic style, It was built in 1843.
- The tower's original name was st. Steven's Tower, but it was renamed Elizabeth tower in 2012 to commemorate the 60th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II's coronation.
- It was originally built along with Westminster Palace between 1843 and 1859 to replace the old palace wich had burned down in 1843.
- The bell was released on 10th of April 1858 at the Whitechapel Bell Foundry as a 13.5-ton bell.
- Legend says that if Big Ben ever strikes 13 times, the lion statues in Trafalgar Square will come to life.
- Depending on the version of the story, these lions will either defend or ravage the city!
- The last time Big Ben fell silent before the most recent repairs was on 2007, also for maintenance repairs.
