TABARCA!!!

TABARCA'S HISTORY AND INFORMATION!

  • The history of present-day Tabarca begins in 1768, when a group of 323 people of Ligurian origin who, under the government of the Republic of Genoa, had settled on the Tunisian island of Tabarca.
  • The island received various denominations throughout history. The Greeks probably knew it as Palensia, while the Romans gave it the name Planaria. The Ceuta geographer Al-ldrisi mentions it by the name of ablanāsa, a clear derivation of Palensia.
  • This small archipelago of Tabarca is formed by a main island called Plana, Santa Pola or Nueva Tabarca, with a narrowing in its western third. Its relief is flat, with a maximum slope of 15m with respect to sea level.
  • This archipelago is completed by the islets of La cantera, La Galera and La Nao, along with numerous rocks (Negre, Roig, Cap del mor, Sabata or Naveta)
